Animal health HQ moving to metro Atlanta

A Kansas City company is moving its North American animal health headquarters to metro Atlanta.

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc. plans to move the operation from St. Joseph, Mo., to Duluth, Ga. According to Bloomberg, the company “researches and develops, manufactures, and markets biological and pharmaceutical products for livestock, equines, companion animals, cattle, pets, swine, and horses.”

Boehringer Ingelheim’s efforts to acquire the animal health subsidiary of Sanofi precipitated the move. For Boehringer Ingelheim to acquire Merial, valued at $12.76 billion, it swapped its consumer health care business with Sanofi (NYSE: SNY). The deal still requires Federal Trade Commission approval.
